Live a better story. Tell a better story. Together.

STORIED FAMILY CAMP 2023

October 13-15 // Camp Eagle, Rocksprings, TX

Looking for a way to connect with your kids, make memories, and grow as a parent?

We created Storied Family Camp just for you.

What you’ll love about Storied Family Camp:

  • Fun for the whole family

Situated among hills and cliffs of The Edwards Plateau along the Nueces River, Camp Eagle provides a first class camp experience including zip-lines, hiking trails, kayaking, and more!

  • Helpful teaching for parents & kids

Over the course of the weekend you’ll experience a few parents-only teaching sessions while your children enjoy engaging storytelling, kid-friendly worship, and story-centric games. Sessions will explore our Storied Family theme (more info below).

  • Connection & memory-making

Throughout the weekend we’ll provide opportunities for you to connect with your family in memorable ways through epic family quests, games, and celebrations.

What you’ll learn at Storied Family Camp:

Storied Family Camp grows out of the reality that the story you’re living right now as a family (and the stories you’re actively passing down) will be the defining narrative of your child’s life. Your family’s story (and your child’s awareness of that story) will have a direct impact on their sense of identity, belonging, and purpose.

Our job then as parents is two fold: To LIVE a good story with our kids and to TELL a good story to our kids.

That’s why we’re bringing you Storied Family Camp.

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll help you bind your family to God and to one another by actively rooting your family’s everyday life in the most important stories—the ancient stories of Scripture and the right now stories God’s writing in your lives.

Teaching is thoughtful, practical, authentic, Scripture-inspired, and chock-full of stories.

Here’s a video we made to promote last summer’s Storied Family workshops. At camp we’ll explore these same themes with lots of fun and connection time thrown in.

Teaching session topics:

THE HERO

How to use story to equip your kids with answers to the foundational questions, “Who am I?” “Where do I come from?” and “Where do I belong?”

THE QUEST

How to use story to help your kids understand their purpose and mission, giving them a powerful filter for making good everyday choices and life-giving long term decisions

THE DRAGON

How to use story to empower your kids as they endure hardship, opposition, conflict, and failure

  • Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation.

    Joel 1:3

  • Everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head... That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.

    Patrick Rothfuss

  • He... commanded our parents to teach it to their children. So the next generation would know, and all the generations to come— Know the truth and tell the stories so their children can trust in God

    Psalm 78

Who you’ll meet at Storied Family Camp:

  • Justin & Jennifer Gerhardt

After having preached for 20 years, Justin created the Old Testament storytelling podcast Holy Ghost Stories. He and his wife Jennifer, partners at the non-profit Hazefire Studios, have led Storied Family workshops all around the world. Jennifer is the author of seven books about walking with God. She has an MA in English and previously worked as a college literature instructor, newspaper reporter, and Storytelling Minister. She and Justin have two teenage daughters, London and Eve (who’ll also be helping out in our kids’ worship & teaching environments).

  • Ryan & Chelsey Burton

Ryan, our worship leader for the weekend, serves as worship ministry team leader at Fellowship Bible Church in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Chelsey (Ryan’s wife) will be helping orchestrate our kids’ environments. She’s a preschool teacher and elementary education grad. She and Ryan have two little girls, Hattie and June, and one more on the way.

  • Luke & Haley Cochran

Luke and Haley handle all things logistics for Storied Family Camp. If you’re talking to the SF team via email, you’re probably talking to Luke & Haley. The Cochrans are Austin-area attorneys with two kids—the whole family loves a good adventure.

What you’ll do at Storied Family Camp:

  • Adventuring

Our group will have the chance to choose 3 adventure activities from a fun list including a 3,000 ft zip-line, rock climbing, rappelling, kayaking, archery, cave exploring, and hiking.

  • Holy Ghost Stories Campfire Experience

Hear a live story from the popular podcast Holy Ghost Stories told by creator Justin Gerhardt with live musical accompaniment.

  • The Quest

Each family is invited to engage in a weekend-long adventure quest. Follow the clues, complete the challenges, claim the title of Storied Family!
